U.S.D. No. 289 – Classroom Aide
Job Description
Purpose: The Classroom Aide assists the classroom instructor in creating a learning environment to facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of students. To accomplish these tasks, the Classroom Aide must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 289.
Responsible to: Classroom Instructor and Building Principal
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
- Desire to continue career improvement.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in facilitating the personal, social and intellectual development of students
- Assist in establishing a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
- Appropriately operate all classroom equipment
- Support the value of an education
- Support the philosophy and mission of USD #289
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines
General Responsibilities:
- Assist in the instruction and supervision of students
- Assist students with remedial work
- Tutor students as directed and monitor student progress
- Assist with small group instruction
- Grade papers and assist with recordkeeping
- Prepare instructional materials and supplies
- Assist in the maintenance and inventory of materials
- Attend general staff meetings, as requested.
- Work effectively with students, teachers, parent, community agencies, and other groups.
- See that district policies are observed during all activities
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
- Other duties as assigned by the Instructor, Principal or other Administrative Staff
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push, heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments
Terms of Employment:
Nine-month contract, At-will employee (see Classified Employee Handbook).
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Classroom Instructor and/or Building Principal according to Board Policy and state regulations, but at least yearly by April 30.
